Most of the details requested in ‘Your Organisation’ are mandatory for a successful Gift Aid claim submission.

Be sure to understand the difference between your HMRC reference number and your charity reference number. They are different!

The HMRC number will have been issued to you by HMRC and is used to identify your charity in all aspects of its relationship with HMRC. It is usually about five digits long and starts with an X for English and Welsh charities, CR for Scottish charities and CH for charities in Northern Ireland.

The Charity Registration Number is issued to charities who register with the Charities Commission for England and Wales, the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator or the Charities Commission for Northern Ireland.

If your charity is registered, you must also show who the regulator is.

Note that many charities, particularly schools and churches, are not registered. In these circumstances, show the regulator as ‘None (excepted or exempt)’.

Please note that your ‘Organisation Details’ page also shows your Fund Filer account number, at the top of the page above ‘Organisation Name’.
